Outbreak! If Social Media Were a Zombie Plague [Infographic]

Outbreak! If Social Media Were a Zombie Plague [Infographic]

Imagine what the world would look like if social media accounts were like viruses that turned people into zombies. Everyone who has an account with Facebook, Pinterest, or Twitter would crave nothing but the sweet taste of brains and blood. One thing’s for sure: any zombie virus that works as well as social media would transform huge numbers of humans into zombies within short periods of time.

How devastating would it be?

Given the cumulative effect of Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Google+, Tumblr, and Twitter, and new stragglers grabbing members wherever they can (Snapchat, Whatsapp, Vine) social media would have turned about 2.3 billion people into zombies by 2012 — that’s nearly a third of the planet’s population!

As smartphones get smarter and computers get cheaper, we can only expect the number of infected to grow. This exponential growth has a real chance of infecting the whole developed world within a year or two.

Considering how easy mobile phones and Internet providers have made it to go online, it’s almost silly to resist the viral outbreak. You might as well stop running and just let them feast on you. It’s inevitable…

Seriously, though, social media has spread faster than even the worst disease. When it comes to going viral, only a zombie outbreak could match the quick spread of social media. See what we mean in the infographic below:

What do you think? Do you think the entire world could be “infected” within a year or two by the social media “plague?” Let us know in the comments below!
